Tailored by JOHN STEPHEN of LONDON for THE SCENE Boutique at GARLICKS ( South African Dept store chain. originating in Capetown ).This is the earliest John Stephen label I have come across .Peak lapel double breasted blazer with brass buttons & patch pockets. Lovely Burgundy colour. JOHN STEPHEN A.K.A. ‘The king of Carnaby Street ‘ was the founding clothes shop of the street that soon was to become the heart of SWINGING LONDON. His little tailors shop / boutique soon became the Mecca for Londons exploding Mod scene . the first star customer was CLIFF RICHARD who purchased 3 mohair sweaters to wear the same evening on the pop show ‘OH BOY! ‘ . Word soon spread and so did his Empire. And Carnaby street the fashion destination of the 60’s world was born. Mint condition. A true collectors item!

beautiful early 1950’s swing coat. Tailor made from a textured ‘paper’ fabric in a vibrant purpley blue colour . Huge shawl collar and oversized turn back cuffs on the sleeve . Hand warmer side pockets. Some slight fading on one side of coat and minor repair to the inside of the right sleeve otherwise in very good condition.
